Pythons dominate ARU in Coldhams Bowl

In their first game back after the Christmas break, the Cambridge Pythons recorded a 48-0 victory in the Coldhams Bowl against Anglia Ruskin Rhinos.

In the first quarter, the Pythons dominated with two touchdowns, the first on a 17 yard pass to Jack Tavener and another on a five yard run by Tom Zhang after Daniil Miroshnichenko intercepted to end an ARU drive. The Rhinos’ passing game was shut down for most of the second quarter again, with two interceptions for Tavener, one returned for a touchdown and the other the offence converted for a touchdown with a Joe Moore run. However, late in the half, ARU got a drive together that led to a field goal attempt, but it was blocked by Tom Carr.

After another Moore touchdown run to start the second half, the third quarter was scrappy with neither offence getting much going until Rob Brewster made another interception for the Pythons that was returned for a touchdown. The fourth quarter belonged to Cambridge, with a 71 yard rumbling touchdown run for Ned Bransden and Darren Harvey making the Pythons’ fifth interception of the game.

It was another dominating display from the Cambridge defence and the offence found their rhythm for most of the game, which is important after the long Christmas break. Cambridge will be hoping to carry the momentum into their next game, at home against UEA on Sunday.
