A look ahead to the season

With just a little over 4 weeks of preseason past the first game of the season looms heavy on the horizon. The Pythons have been training hard throughout the off season to ensure they are ready to take on their full schedule of games which has seen an increase in difficulty this past year.

It seems customary of the league to give a rookie programme a schedule which airs on the easier side of their conference. This year however the schedule includes all of the top teams from the conference in the previous year, and leaves out some of the bottom teams.
The SEC is home to the current reigning national champions the Hertfordshire Hurricanes, and while they have undergone a transformation in terms of their kit this past year, changing their primary colour from green to purple, they will still undoubtedly face the Pythons with their toughest challenge to date This game will be played in week 3 of the BUAFL season, at home in Coldham’s common on the 18th November.

Historically the Pythons season can be seen as a tale of two parts. After the Christmas break with no more college rugby and with Varsity over, the squad sees a bolstering in terms of player numbers. Cambridge is somewhat of a misnomer when it comes to team numbers, with over 30 rugby teams throughout the university, ushering in players faces significant challenges.
The 5 games in 2013 are ones that the Pythons will face with the mind to win them out and earn a spot in either the championship or plate playoffs.
The final part of the year will see the Pythons face the Lancers again for the second varsity of the new age.
